Sancta Maria by Edgar Allan Poe

Sancta Maria
turn your eyes upon me
and see

my sacrifice to thee
my prayer to you
and my offering
of love
and grief
over what I have done

I this sinner
morning noon and night
in the twilight
will pray to thee
to pardon me
for I knew not
what was within me

on that frightful day

Mother
Goddess
be with me still
now more than ever
I need you
forever

for as the hours
go by
the clouds
in the skylight
bright gleeming glare
in my eyes

I can only think
of what I had done
and that only
your grace and mercy
can lift
the veil
which Past has won
